Mentality

Is Switzerland cosmopolitan or closed? How is the Swiss? How are guests received? These questions are difficult to answer.

Switzerland has a cosmopolitan city with Geneva and a lot of international tourism. At the same time there is an urge for isolation in politics. Cosmopolitanism is desired, Switzerland has grown strongly in recent years. The people who are affected see it differently than people who get the information from the media. Switzerland is a diverse country and life in cities, agglomerations and villages is different. It depends on you as a traveler, how you feel and shape Switzerland.

Historically, Switzerland has been a mountainous country, poor, disputed by religious wars that sold young people as mercenaries. Today, Switzerland is a leading industrial nation without real financial worries and a popular holiday destination for the beautiful and the rich. People are usually still closed and are open and friendly when the cash register is right. There is a humane tradition and helpfulness as well as a great honesty. Acquaintances are more difficult in Switzerland, but they are very sustainable.

If you travel to Switzerland, the country is perfectly organized and clean. The information is mostly multilingual and you can get to any place quickly. However, you are little smiled at by the people and rarely invited privately. Prices are fixed, haggling is not common, but can still be tried.

In Switzerland there are four national languages German with many Swiss German variations, French in the west, Italian in the south and Rhaeto-Romanic in parts of Graubünden. You can experience many mentalities in the smallest space.
